Off to Arizona

Published on 22 May 2008 in Life Updates, Training Updates

I just returned from the UW Law School Alumni Dinner where I had the pleasure of dining with D. Wayne Gittinger and his wife Anne. Both have been gracious enough to give me a generous scholarship this year. Without the scholarship, I am not sure I would be able to take time off next year to focus on my training. I just wanted to take a moment to thank them once again.

In the morning I will depart for Tucson, Arizona for the Tucson Elite Throwers Classic. An elite field of ten throwers has been assembled in each throwing event for what will shape up to be a night of fun. I have fully recovered from my rib injury and am excited to compete again. My training has been going well and I threw a new training best on Tuesday morning. My training partners are also doing well, with Michael Letterlough and Sultana Frizell again setting new national records at the Chinook Throws Gala in Lethbridge, Alberta. Another training partner, Megann Vandervliet, also nearly broke 200 feet in her first year of throwing the hammer. She was formerly an NCAA Division III All-American in the discus and shot put at Calvin College.

I lead two lives: during the day you’ll find me in my suit and tie as an international tax attorney, but after work I’m training hard as the Swiss national hammer throw champion. Follow me as I work towards the 2012 Olympics and explore this site to learn more about the hammer throw and my various pursuits. Also consider donating to the Evergreen Athletic Fund, a non-profit organization I’ve founded.
