December Video Update

Published on 6 December 2008 in Training Updates

With previous coaches, I found that video analysis was essential to fine-tune my technique.  Since working with Dr. Bonarchuk, however, I no longer feel the need to watch as much video.  I trust that he knows what he is talking about and just do as he says.  However, it is still helpful to watch video occasionally to visualize what he is talking about.  It has been too long since I have done this.  Below is a video we took at an indoor training session this week.  I was throwing the competition 16-pound hammer.

After a slow November, my training is progressing again and I am throwing around 3 or 4 meters further than last December. My speed and strength are both in great shape and I am feeling trim at a bodyweight of 230 pounds. What I have been working the hardest on lately is my technique. As the video demonstrates, I have a tendency to stand my body up in the first turn rather than being patient and pushing the hammer. You can even hear Dr. Bondarchuk reminding me of this as I start my throw. I also anticipate the release, which disrupts my rhythm. I have slowly been eliminating both problems and hopefully they will be fixed by the time the season comes around.
