January Update

Published on 26 January 2009 in Life Updates, Training Updates

I apologize for the lack of updates this month, but January has been quite busy.  While the rest of the Kamloops training group has spent the month in Arizona, I have spent the month in Seattle with my family.  While the training facilities are inconvenient in Seattle, I have managed to maintain my training regime and am still about ten feet ahead of where I was last year at this time.  I am throwing the heavy 8-kilogram and 10-kilogram hammers especially well and have been very close to my personal best this week with the latter.  I am also throwing a few light hammers, but I have not been able to throw those nearly as well.

The rest of my time has been spent doing a variety of different activities.  Most recently, I traveled to Albany, New York to be sworn into the bar as an attorney.  Earlier in the month I also traveled to New Orleans to attend an American Bar Association tax conference as a competitor in the Law Student Tax Challenge.  My remaining time has mostly been spent adjusting to a new job.  I have recently been hired as an International Tax Analyst for the Redmond-based Univar Inc.   This has been the perfect opportunity for me to gain work experience since Univar has been very flexible and accommodating to my training schedule.  I plan to return to Seattle at least one week every month to continue to work with them.

I lead two lives: during the day you’ll find me in my suit and tie as an international tax attorney, but after work I’m training hard as the Swiss national hammer throw champion.
