Win at the Swiss Club Championships

With a team comprised of a mixture very young and aging athletes, my club (ST Bern) entered today’s Swiss Club Championships with one main goal: don’t get relegated.  The premiere league has eight teams and each season the bottom team is replaced by the winner of the second division.  We were able to escape relegation this year by placing sixth.  One more year in the top league will give us a good opportunity to develop the young athletes into leading roles on the team.  Hopefully we will ascend once again to the top of the Swiss rankings.

I also met my own personal goals for the competition by improving my seasons best in the hammer, not having any fouls, and placing in the top five in the shot put.  I’m taking things one step at a time this season and things are slowly starting to progress.  The competition conditions were also less than ideal with one flight over over twenty throwers.  That meant that we took one attempt every 20-30 minutes, which is never good when you are trying to stay warm and get a rhythm.  My technique was also worse than it had been in training recently.  All this means that I have a lot of upside for next weekend’s big European Team Championships in Bergen.
