This weekend I competed in the Swiss Championships, my last meet of the season for me. Despite a tumultuous up and down year, I was able to win my first Swiss Championships by a convincing margin of more than 7 meters. My good friend and teammate Roland Widmer took second place.

I’ll have more reflections on the season in the coming weeks once I have a better chance to look back and analyze things, but I am proud that I was able to win the title and at least meet one of my goals for the year. There have been a few times when I was ranked number one in Switzerland but unable to attend the championships due to conflicts in my schedule. Because of that, it felt all the better to actually win the title.

From here, I will fly back to Seattle on Monday morning and see my eager girlfriend and family.  After recovering from the flight, I will stay in town and begin a low volume transitional training program until my coach returns from the World Championships in Berlin.  Once he returns, I’ll head back up to Kamloops and start working my ass off to reach my goals for next season.  There is no rest for the weary.
