Fall Training: Video Update

Published on 19 September 2009 in Training Updates

Since returning from Europe, I have returned to training twice a day. While I have taken an extra day off here and there, I’ve let my body rest in other ways. For instance, I’ve only been throwing light hammers (6.5 and 5.5 kilograms) and have done basically no weightlifting over the past six weeks. My strength training has been limited to simple exercises such as sit ups, vertical jumps, and overhead shot put throws. This has allowed me to rest up and correct some bad habits that emerged during the season.

There have been several things I have been focusing on for my technique. First and foremost, I’ve been trying to prolong double support in each turn by being more patient with my lower body. I have also been working on letting the hammer get out to the left on the first turn while keeping my body aligned with the hammer. I’m making slow progress on each of these points and, as a result, some of my other faults are also going away. For instance, my low point was too far to the left during the season, but is back to the middle again. Below is a video from training this week that show’s the progress I’ve been making.
