In addition to the interview I posted earlier this week, there is some other information available online about Werner Günthör’s training and Jean-Pierre Egger’s training methods. I have tried to collect much of it below to help put the interview in context and also provide more information for those interested. Enjoy.

Jean-Pierre Egger Training Video
This video is hands down the best throws training video ever made. Some think it is the music and some think it is the hair. But what makes it amazing is to just watch one of the world’s best athletes go through training. This is a man who could high jump 6’6″ (2 meters) from a short approach at a bodyweight of 290 pounds (130kg). The video is available on YouTube and split into four parts. The first part is here in French. You can watch the other parts by clicking the links after the video. A translation is also available below.

Translation of Training Video
While the training video provides a great example of Günthör’s training, it provides even more if you can understand the French or German narration. Jörg Probst, a fellow Swiss and fellow attorney now working in Australia, has provided a good translation of the video below. Visit Jörg’s website for more interesting posts on throwing.
Sample Yearly Plan
A yearly training for Günthör’s 1986 season. As Jean-Pierre mentioned in the interview, he shortened the period of time in the extensive phase in subsequent years. Click to enlarge.
Sample Training Program
This training program is was put together by Dave Caster based on third-hand knowledge, but it still seems to fit other reports on Werner Günthör’s training programs.
