Experience

Since beginning law school in 2005 and passing the bar exam in 2008, I have acquired a breadth of experience that includes working for internationally respected law firms, multinational corporations, and the United States government while continuing to train as an elite athlete.

Current Position

UBS AG, Compliance Officer (May 2010-Present) – Helped implement and coordinate the exit of U.S. clients as a member of Legal and Compliance’s U.S. Exit Task Force. Also assessed the U.S. status of clients and determined how funds had been disposed of to meet the company’s settlement requirements.

Previous Legal Experience

Univar Inc., International Tax Analyst (January 2008-March 2010) - Assisted tax planning for international transactions and reorganizations by a multinational chemical distributor with annual sales of over $8 billion. Also conducted research for year-end tax provision and tax return.

Office of Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service, Legal Intern (March 2008-June 2008) - Drafted summary judgment motions, research memorandum, and other tax litigation documents in the Seattle, Washington office. Also presented winning opening argument in Chakoian v. United States, T.C. Memo 2009-151.

Entrepreneurial Law Clinic at the University of Washington School of Law, Student Member (September 2007-June 2008) - Provided tax and business advice to low-income entrepreneurs and high-tech start ups.

Baker & McKenzie, Summer Associate (August 2007-September 2007) – Worked in the International Private Banking and Tax Practice Groups at the firm’s Zürich office.

McKee Nelson LLP, Summer Associate (May 2007-August 2007) - Worked in both the  Tax Planning and Tax Litigation Practice Groups at the firm’s main Washington D.C. office. McKee Nelson is now part of Bingham McCutchen LLP.

Dean Emeritus Roland Hjorth, University of Washington School of Law, Deloitte and Touche LLP Research Assistant (May 2007-June 2007) – Researched the federal tax consequences of law school loan repayment programs under Code section 108(f).

The Honorable Robert J. Bryan, U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington, Judicial Extern (January 2007-March 2007).

The Hunsinger Law Firm, Law Student Intern (June 2006-September 2006).

Professor Ronald Moore, University of Washington Department of Philosophy, Legal Research Assistant (October 2005-December 2005) – Researched legislative history and case law interpreting the Visual Artists Rights Act of 1990.
